BMW i4, iX3, iNEXT: testing of electric vehicles in extreme cold
BMW unveiled some photos of its upcoming range of electric vehicles, including the BMW iX3, BMW i4, and BMW iNEXT. Get used to hearing the nameplates of the BMW iX3, BMW i4, and BMW iNEXT. The three models will form the range of electric vehicles of BMW in a few years. The BMW EV range and their electric powertrains are currently being tested in harsh winter conditions in Sweden. Fully electric, the BMW I range will include two sport utility vehicles (iX3 and iNEXT) as well as the i4 sedan. Although the three BMW electric vehicles were heavily camouflaged during their winter test drive, we clearly see many similarities between the iX3 and the traditional BMW X3 as well as between the BMW i4, the current and the new series 3, but with a slimmer profile. As for the BMW iNEXT, it is a little more camouflaged and all that BMW had to say is that it “combines the latest innovations in design, automated driving, connectivity, electrification and services (D + ACES) defined by the NUMBER ONE> NEXT business strategy.
BMW i4 will have more than 600 kilometers of autonomy
The BMW i4 is described as a four-door coupe and is expected to offer more than 600 km of range thanks to the fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology at outdoor car cover. BMW also claims that the i4 will reach 100 km / h in just 4.0 seconds. He is expected to compete with the Tesla Model 3 and Polestar 2 on his arrival in 2021. The BMW iX3 will go on sale next year with the same drive technology as the BMW i4. It will offer a range of over 400 kilometers and owners can use DC charging stations for fast charging. It will be a 100% electric SUV, or as BMW calls it, a service for Sport Activity Vehicle. Being essentially an electric BMW X3, it will compete with Tesla Model Y, Audi Q4 e-Tron and electric Porsche Macan.
A first image of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé unveiled
BMW confirms the launch of the Gran Coupé 2 Series for the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. Harald Krüger, the boss of BMW AG, announced at the press conference of the annual results the arrival of a new model. Indeed, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé will make its appearance in the line of the German manufacturer. Sporty, elegant and exclusive is how BMW describes this new addition. This luxury 4-door coupé will, therefore, enter the premium compact segment and will target a modern and urban clientele. The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé will debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. It will arrive on the world market in the spring of 2020.
Sharing many elements with the new BMW 1 Series, the Gran Coupe 2 Series is also based on the same front-wheel-drive architecture. Yes, the new Series 1 and Series 2 Gran Coupé will now be pulling. According to BMW, saving money by car has favored the change of architecture for these two models. As for her, the all-new generation of the BMW 1 Series will be launched in the fall of 2019.
The BMW i3 2019 will be even more autonomous
The presence of the Bavarian manufacturer at the Paris Motor Show this week undoubtedly focuses on the presentation of the new 3 Series, but for lovers of electric energy, the (still) unveiling of an enhanced i3 is still better! Indeed, BMW pushes the limits of its all-electric city with an even larger battery pack, the capacity of the latter is now 42.2 kWh (instead of the current model of 33. As mentioned in the statement of this i3 reviewed and improved, the capacity of batteries has doubled since its introduction on the market in 2014. The range of the car is 260 km in everyday driving, according to the first estimates of the brand. The WLTP cycle is more of a distance between 285 and 310 km for the i3 model and 270 to 285 for the i3s, sportier with its 184 horsepower electric motor, compared to the 170 horsepower of the regular version. All of these estimates, however, come from the harmonized European WLTP calculation cycle. The theoretical distance to the North American continent will likely be lower when the even more autonomous BMW i3 arrives on our roads next year.
In addition to these significant improvements, BMW also announces the arrival of new exterior color, Beige Jucaro, as well as a new Sport package that changes the settings of the suspension. Adaptive headlights for light-emitting diodes will also be added to the list of options. Inside, an optimized touchpad may simplify the use of the iDrive system, while a wireless charging system for smartphones is also planned later in the model cycle. BMW Canada has not yet announced the date of entry of this i3 with a more permissive battery, but it is safe to say that it will be soon if only to keep its electric public in suspense.
The 5 fastest selling cars in the United States are electrified
The American website iSeeCars.com has just published the results of a study for the least interesting for buyers who would be looking for a vehicle that sells quickly. To achieve this, analysts at iSeeCars.com scanned more than 4 million used vehicle sales in the United States between January and July 2018, limiting themselves to 2015-2017 model year vehicles. The site iSeeCars.com is already a place used by millions of consumers who want to sell or buy their vehicle. Thanks to its database, iSeeCars.com was able to calculate the number of days required for the vehicle to be sold. The balance is likely to please “green” consumers as the five fastest-selling vehicles are all electrified.
At the forefront is the Toyota Prius, which sells in 29.6 days, according to iSeeCars.com. It is true that depreciation helps consumers to wait for the car to be less expensive. In the second place, the Tesla Model S is sold in 32.4 days. The website explains this short delay because of the rarity of the model, in addition to the fact that a new livery of the Model S requires a certain waiting time for delivery. On the other hand, a used version is available immediately! The BMW i3 ranks fourth with the Toyota Prius, with both cars needing 33.4 days. Because of the very strong depreciation of the model after only 2-3 years, the small BMW is selling very quickly. The Toyota Prius, for its part, is the most popular and recognized hybrid of the world. Although it is widespread, the Prius continues to be popular with consumers because of its lower fuel consumption.
Finally, the fifth rank is occupied by the Chevrolet Volt, another “green” car that no longer needs presentation. The time for the sale is only 34.3 days. Here too, it is the strong depreciation of the model that attracts thrifty researchers, according to iSeeCars.com.
Of course, these results relate to the US market, but since Canada is the neighbor, the consumption habits of Canadian buyers should be similar.
Ironically, the next five vehicles in the list of the fastest-selling cars are not hybrid or electric vehicles. The Volkswagen Golf R requires 34.4 days, the Honda Civic, 34.7, the Toyota Corolla, 34.9, the Honda Accord, 35.5 and the Hyundai Veloster Turbo, 36.
