Backwaters of Kerala
Alleppey. This is a beautiful town in Kerala which has a large network of small canals and streams. Almost all the backwaters canal either start from this town or end here. This town is also known as Alappuzha which means Venice of East. Small houseboat cruises are operated for the tourists. Tourists can see the lighthouse which once upon a time was used for unloading of goods from ships.
Main Attraction. The town is famous for an annual festival named Nehru boat race in which local people participate in snake-shaped country-made boats. The event is also called as Aranmula Snake Boat Race. The best time to visit Alleppey is during this festival season.
