  1.     Wait for dry weather

Be sure not to paint during rainy days, because during this time the humidity drips and paint are slow drying. When painting during humid times, take it slow and use slow-drying paint to be able to correct your errors prior to doing the next coat. It is also advisable not to overwork, because it will appear when you are done.

  1.     Perform an entire visual inspection and prep.

For a fact, all peeling, flaking or cracked areas will require sanding or scraping prior to applying new primer and paint. The bulk of the new coat will pull the old paint out. In here, time and money are wasted, if you don’t do this right away. Also, greasy spots may also ask for some washing with soap and rinse with clean water after. Be sure to apply the walls with a quick wipe-down using a small damp cloth, so that paint will bear a clean and dust-free surface.

  1.     Purchase high-quality brushes, roller covers, and painter’s tape.

When buying great paint with high prices, you will need a good price too when it comes to the tools used during the application. For a fact, good brushes and roller covers allow great results, so that you don’t have a waste of time and re-application of the paint. Also, using a high-end painter’s tape is a good cause, when the talk is on sealing out drips and blurs.

  1.     Know your nap.

With a good texture on the walls, there will, also, be a thicker nap, where you will prepare the roller cover, so that it can be applied in the crevices and allow complete coverage. However, when you have too thick, it may result to having texture where you don’t want it. Hence, be sure to be prepared to allow the salesperson to state facts about what you’re painting.

  1.     Protect anything you don’t want painted.

It is necessary to cover hardware, furniture and floors prior to beginning a paint project. Add drop cloths and small plastic sandwich bags tied with tape as a quick means of protecting doorknobs.

  1.     Remove light switch and outlet covers.

Be sure to remove light switch and outlet covers, even if you are in a haste.

  1.     Use primer.

Adding paint-and-primer combinations are good, if you have already a clean, smooth surface. On the other hand, when there are some issues with the wall or it has been a long time since you last painted, apply a separate primer. During the time you will need to cover a different surface (like glass or high-gloss paint), you may use a bonding primer.

  1.     Box your paint.

During painting, you may ask a salesperson to aid you with a realistic estimate of the amount of paint you will use, so that you can buy it all right away. Also, over using one gallon at a time, you may mix all the paint into one large container and blend it effectively. Such act is known as “boxing” your paint, which allows a color consistent from start to end.

  1.     Allow the roller do the job.

During the recent times, applying premium paints is easier and you get to choose a good roller cover, so there is no pressure asked for. In applying paint, use an extension pole so you can apply paint in all areas in the least effort and avoid straining your back.

  1. Paint from top to bottom.

Upon cutting in edges at the ceiling and baseboard with the use of a brush, you may use a roller to add paint from upwards to the bottom. For those who are new to painting, you may have telltale drips and spatters at the end of a paint job. On the other hand, pros may paint on mistakes as they paint a wall. When an area begins to dry, it is advisable to leave it alone. Checking out over it may add marks and color streaks in the area.
